Paul Newman
Motion Picture and Stage Actor, Director, Producer - Academy Award winner who won and was nominated for numerous awards over a fifty year career. One of only four actors to have been nominated for an Academy Award in five different decades. Attended Yale School of Drama and studied under Lee Strasberg at the Actors Studio.
Philanthropist/Entrepreneur - Co-founded Newman's Own, a food company from which he donated hundreds of millions of dollars to charity. He was named the Most Generous Celebrity in 2008 for contributing over $20 million of personal wealth to the Newman's Own Foundation.
Race Car Driver and IndyCar Owner - A 30 year career in professional auto racing as driver and car owner as chronicled in the documentary, Winning: The Racing Life of Paul Newman. He took the pole in his last race in 2007 at Watkins Glen International and was inducted into the SCCA Hall of Fame in 2009.
Political Activist - A lifelong liberal Democrat, he supported McCarthy in 1968 which landed him in nineteenth place on Richard Nixon's enemies list. He was also the chief investor that bought the progressive-left wing periodical The Nation. He supported nuclear energy development as a solution to global warming.
Mr Newman was married to Joanne Woodward for 50 years. They made their life in Connecticut, away from the Hollywood spotlight. He died at home in their bed, with Joanne at his side. His last words, "It's been a privilege to be here."
